Since the second half of the 19th century, considerable peak victories had been achieved in the Dolomites. In 1857, the Irish natural scientist and mountaineer John Ball manages the first touristic ascent of a Dolomite mountain, Monte Pelmo (3168 m). Viennese Paul Grohmann performs several famous first ascents together with local guides, for example of Marmolada (1864), Langkofels (1869) or the Große Zinne (1869). Viktor Wolf Edler von Glanvell is the one to find various new ascents and follow them in the Dolomites of Prags. He succeeds thanks to a mixture of careful planning, sound sense of direction and the courage to tackle any adventure. We will follow in the footsteps of this Dolomite pioneer and climb Herrenstein, high above the valley of Prags.
