“To the last breath”

Theme hike | First World War in the Dolomites | 1 day.
The destination of this hike is the high plateau of Monte Piana/o, which lies in the borderland between today’s South Tyrol and the province Belluno. Starting from Misurina, we will use the old military road to reach Rifugio Angelo Bosi and from there it’s only a short way to the open-air museum at about 2300 m. The army posts and tunnels are silent witnesses of the gruesome battles of World War One, during which thousands of mountain troops and Alpini lost their lives in a pointless war. We will take a closer look at this almost surreal and bizarre piece of history that changed the political landscape of Europe in the 20th century. The 360-degree view of the plateau is fantastic and the mighty Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen) to the East and the Croda Rossa (Hohe Gaisl) to the West offer a truly impressive mountain panorama. This tour can also be booked for just one or two people – price upon request.
Meeting point: Hotel Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Dreizinnenblick) in Höhlensteintal at 9 o’clock on the agreed date.
Walking time about 5h, 820-meter ascent, 950-meter descent, route: ~14 km
